YOU ARE MY WITNESSES!

Dear Friends,

After Jesus’ ascension, what are we to do? Do we sit around and wait for something to happen or do we go and do something? We are not to sit around and wait, we are to do something. Jesus told his Apostles that; “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”(Acts 1:8). Clearly we are not to sit back and just let society and the culture around us rot. We are called to make this world a better place by witnessing the Risen Christ through loving one another.

While that mission was entrusted to the Apostles, and to the bishops who are the successors of the Apostles, and their assistants, the priests. We are all called to participate in this mission by witnessing Christ through love (Caritas--God's Love). This is especially true in those situations where true love is lacking, challenged or compromised. Christ is relying on you to witness to him where no one else will.

Ascension is a solemnity that sustains the hope of Christians that one day we shall be where Christ is. In Mathew 25:31-46, Jesus tells us whatever we do to the least of our brothers and sisters, we do it for Him. Let us have our eyes fixed on heaven but at the same time have our feet firm on the ground, as we do it for Him. Let our belief in the Risen Lord and our hope in the second coming of Jesus be expressed in our commitment to transforming the world through love for one another.

May God Bless You.
