RENEW YOUR BAPTISMAL PROMISES

Dear friends,

As we celebrate the feast of “The Baptism of the Lord” by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, it marks the end of the liturgical season of Christmas. We recall Our Lord's second manifestation (or epiphany) which occurred on the occasion of His baptism in the Jordan. Jesus descended into the River to sanctify its waters and to give us the power to beget sons of God.

May Your Light Shine

As we continue enjoying the season of Christmas and ushering in the new year, the gospel reading invites us to ponder another interesting story surrounding the birth of Jesus - the journey of the Magi - the wise men who followed the star that led them to the Child Jesus in the manger. GOSPEL: Luke 23:35-43

Dear friends,

The gospel reading of today presents the paradox of Christ’s kingship. The characters in the gospel question Christ’s kingship. Hanging on the cross, he was anything but a king; clad in a strip of rag rather than a royal garb, surrounded by men who despised him instead of revering him. The rulers sneered at him, the soldiers jeered at him, even the sign above his head read, “this is the king of the Jews,” a mockery of his title. Our celebration today is not a mockery. Rather, it is a genuine celebration of the universal reign of our Lord Jesus Christ.
