Reflections of Caritas

"The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior; he will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, he will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals.” – Zephaniah 3:17-18

Have you ever been to a festival? Imagine a beautiful sunny day. The aroma of sizzling bratwurst and hamburgers wafts through the air as they are grilled over a charcoal fire. Laughter and a chorus of conversations echo around you as musicians play a joyful tune from across the way. Adults reminisce while children chase each other in a game of tag.

"Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” – Luke 3:4

I have many faults and shortcomings. One of them is a tendency to be a bit disorganized. Well, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that at times I can be plain messy.

"Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy… from the anxieties of daily life.”

– Luke 21:34

Everyone is busy. You are busy. I am busy. We are all busy! But what exactly are we all so busy doing? Sending emails, running errands, doing chores, working, studying, you name it.

The courage of Jesus inspires me. He didn’t pander to the crowds. He didn’t apologize when His teachings offended someone. He didn’t acquiesce to power or money in order to save His own skin. He simply spoke the Truth, even when it got Him into trouble.
