PASSION SUNDAY (PALM SUNDAY)

GOSPEL: MT 26:14-26:66

Hosanna, hosanna!!!!!

Dear friends,

After five and a half weeks of preparation, we now enter into the climax of the Lenten season namely Holy Week, the chief week of the Liturgical Year. Today is the first day of Holy Week and it is called “Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion.” In a way, the whole week from today until Easter Sunday should be seen as one unit, namely, the celebration of the Paschal Mystery, which is the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On this Sunday, the Church celebrates the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem in order to accomplish his Paschal Mystery. Today, all the readings highlight the ordeal and humility of Christ. Today’s gospel is from the passion narrative of Christ. It could be divided into three scenes: the arrest of Christ, his arraignment before Roman authorities, and his suffering and death. It is a drama of both praise and betrayal. It started like a comedy, but seems to end like a tragedy.

THE SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

GOSPEL:  Matthew 17:1-9

Dear friends,

As we continue our Lenten journey and Jesus continues his own journey towards Jerusalem, he knows what he is facing. He will be betrayed, denied, condemned and crucified. Perhaps he feels and senses the disciples’ fear and anxiety and so wants to reassure them. So he gives them a glimpse of the shape of things to come; he is revealed to them in all his glory.

Lent: Entering into the Wilderness (Desert)

THE FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

GOSPEL: Matthew 4:1-11

Dear friends,

WE HAVE NOW ENTERED the great season of Lent. Lent comes around each year and presents us with its usual challenge to take stock of our lives, to see more clearly what is in our hearts, and to discover what might be calling us out of our comfort zones. It is a time for personal as well as group reflection, a time for entering into ‘the wilderness’ and grappling with the mysteries of life, as well as a time of preparation for Easter. The Church provides Lent almost like an annual retreat, a time for deepening the understanding of our Christian faith, a time for reflection and renewal, a time to make a fresh start.

Turning the other Cheek and loving your enemies

THE SEVETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

GOSPEL: Matt 5:38-48

Dear friends,

Today, the church turns our attention to this very important theological virtue, Love. We celebrate the Lord who is compassionate and love. As we celebrate Christ who is love, the church calls us to be like Him. This is because, we are built into Christ, like stones built into a temple erected to give glory to God.
