GOSPEL: LUKE 14:1, 7-14.
“Humble yourself and you will find favor with God”
Dear friends,
On this twenty second Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus calls our attention to a very important Christian virtue, humility. It is an attribute and quality of God which all his children must strive to possess and live. Today, arrogance and pride are being celebrated. In the name of self-confidence and self-esteem, achievement and success, influence and affluence’.
However, Humility was a distinctive mark of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ our Lord. So, it must also be for us as Christians. Pride is a disease. However, the good news is that, it can be cured through the imitation of Christ’s humility. There is nothing to lose by being humble. Proverb tells us that: “Humility and the fear of the Lord brings wealth, honor, and life” (Prov 22:4). On the contrary, pride results in defeat and shame. Any spiritual life that is not based on humility will definitely be an empty one. This is because such a Christian will only work for himself, and without regards for others.
Real humility is living in the truth of who we are before God and who we are in relationship to one another. The higher position that we have in the world, the deeper is our need for humility. Such humility will be shown in loving (CARITAS) and having an attentive ear to the cries of those who need our help.
We are called to imitate the humility of Jesus Christ our Lord, who humbled himself to the point of shedding his blood. Let us love others today, especially those who cannot repay our love! Let us serve each person who comes into our life. Let us listen attentively so that we can know the divine presence at work in our world!
God Bless,
Rev. Father Frank Kyazze
